Fitness Program in Bloomington Transforms Family
Posted by laurelfarrell
Skinny … twiggy … eats everything … gains nothing … these are the words I grew up with.
I was super little growing up. When I graduated from high school I weighed 90 pounds. My Grandma always told me that while I could eat whatever I wanted then, it would catch up with me someday. That’s exactly what happened. I stayed small until I got married, then my weight started to creep up on me slowly.
I had two boys, and I continued to lose and gain weight in the traditional vicious cycle. I tried the programs — would lose weight, then gain it back. We ate terrible at home. My husband was not on the programs with me so I would eventually go back to those toxic ways. It was hard to be the size I was, when I was so used to being small.
The Farrell’s fitness facility in Bloomington, Illinois opened up in February 2011. I had heard about the program but was skeptical. This past summer I decided that I was going to start running every day. My husband decided he was going to join Farrell’s in July. So at 5:30am I would get up and run one mile. I started doing the Farrell nutrition plan along with my husband. His weight melted off!! He was fitting into smaller clothes and feeling better — all the while I was running.

This is Megan in the center, when she was running and following the nutrition, but hadn't started the complete fitness program.
In September I felt better about my nutrition, but was not seeing the weight leave me. Then my husband came home with a bombshell. He had won a trip to Mexico!! I decided right then and there that I was signing up for the October session at Farrell’s!! I was going to wear a bikini while I was in Mexico in December!!
My husband’s session ended in September and he was the $1,000 winner!! He has lost over 50 pounds as of this post. He signed up to be a fit member and instructor. My session started in October. The first day I was nervous for my pictures, and to find out just how much I weighed. My husband and the staff at Farrell’s were right there to support me. In the upcoming weeks I attended classes, stuck with the nutrition and started to see amazing results!! Size after size became too big!! My 4:30pm class started to become a little family. Full of support and caring!! I have been an asthmatic all my life. I no longer needed that inhaler!! I started to not care what the scale would say at ten week testing. It was just a number. I felt great about the size I was in!!
I did not win the $1,000 dollars at the end of my ten weeks.
I did lose 23 pounds since I started the
nutrition in July. Along with five pant sizes! What I won was greater than any amount of money. I have won my health back. I have won a richer marriage. I have won my “skinny girl” clothes back. I have won back myself!! I also fit into that bikini in December, while we were in Mexico!
Recently a person asked about my ‘diet’ – my eight year old son said “My Mom and Dad are not on a diet, it’s a lifestyle”!!
Kids are so truthful, and he was absolutely right!!! We are a Farrell Family!!

Way to go, Megan! I totally relate to your story as I was that skinny girl for most of my life too – until I had kiddos that is. I am starting FXB @ Star Ranch in Colorado this Saturday & can not wait!!! I am looking forward to losing this belly that looks 5 months pregnant yet is not, getting stronger & instilling new, healthy habits into my daily routine. Keep up the great work, Megan. You are inspiration to us all.
Thanks Dianne!! You will do GREAT!!! Those people at your Farrell’s location will be with you 100%!! If you ever need a pep talk, look me up on Facebook!! I would be glad to help! I always said to myself during hard classes, “Smaller Jeans”. It seemed to help!! Good Luck!!
I’m very proud of you and Justin… I think that’s awesome! It looks like a lot of fun! Congrats to the both of u!
