Colorado Springs Fitness Team Climbs the Manitou Incline

This group of students from Farrell’s Colorado Springs locations climbed The Manitou Incline in April 2012
In April, 30 fitness members from the Colorado Springs Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping locations challenged themselves to a steep climb to test the legs they’ve been building during their group fitness classes.
The Manitou Springs Incline was originally completed in 1907. The one mile cable tram was originally built to aid in the construction of a hydroelectric plant and waterline, but was maintained as a popular tourist attraction through the 1960′s.
The cable car is no longer operating, but the train now serves as a challenging workout for locals. The one mile climb ascends 2000 vertical feet, and at it’s steepest point reaches a 50 degree angle. A 2.7 mile trail returns climbers to the base.
For many, this climb was a challenge they never dreamed they would be able to accomplish, but after completing the Farrell’s 10 week fitness challenge it was a very achievable goal.
“One year ago I had a third of my left lung removed and never imagined that a year later I would be able to do the Incline with air to spare,” said Fernando Bonilla.
Fernando and Carre Bonilla were among the Farrell’s team and said the climb was a ‘bucket list’ adventure for them.
Stay tuned! Fernando and Carre’s fitness transformation story will be featured in our next article.
