Healthy Family = Happy Family
My name is Julie K and I LOVE to eat! Growing up with an Italian grandmother who was a gourmet cook and taught my mom all of her recipes (especially pasta and sweets), our family constantly focused on what we were going to eat. A day did not go by that I did not have some form of dessert!!! When I was preparing for my “Noon Years Eve ” kids concert, I felt I was lacking energy. Needing to jump like a jumping bean, sing and dance with high levels of energy to the ten and under crowd, demands stamina!!
Needing to get more fit, I joined Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping in January! The workouts consist of alternating kickboxing and resistance band training six days per week, plus a nutrition plan. At first, I told myself I would only do the workout and ignore the food/nutrition part, but the more I participated, the more I learned from my coaches. They made me realize how important my food choices were for my life and my family’s life. I decided to make radical changes to my cooking and food purchasing styles by cutting back on eating out, and selecting healthier food choices. Instead of picking up doughnuts a few times a week for the family and eating pizza at least three times a week, we now eat healthy six days a week and keep Saturdays as our “fun day”, when we can eat whatever we want. In the mornings, fruit smoothies with kale, replaced pancakes and bacon; chickpeas and cauliflower replaced chips and dip; and pasta has almost been eliminated. Healthy yogurt is now my new dessert of choice, and I’ve actually learned to read food labels! I also stopped drinking my daily mocha coffees. It was so difficult at first, but we have cut so much sugar, caffeine and fat from our diets, that we all feel healthier. Before Farrell’s we lived to eat, but now we eat to live!!
Thanks to Farrell’s I feel super fit and now have my family on a healthy living plan, too! I’ve made great changes over the course of the initial 10-week challenge, and I’m excited to continue with this healthy lifestyle of proper nutrition and exercise. But most of all, I look forward to keeping up with your children when we are jumping, singing and dancing!!
