Farrell’s Brought Me Back to Life!
Dina, a member at our Colorado Springs – Garden of the Gods Farrell’s location shares her amazing story with us.
During my time in the Army I went through a traumatic experience that changed my whole life. I was deployed in Afghanistan and was set to come back home to my family after a 12-month deployment. The day we were set to fly out of Afghanistan and make our way back home I received a red cross message that my father had passed away. My whole world collapsed! I went into a complete shutdown both physically and emotionally! While I had to continue to move forward because life goes on, I did, but I was not at my best and it showed. I was inducted into the “Sergeant Audie Murphy Club” in the Army, which is made up of the top 2% of the most Elite Soldiers in the Army. There I met a Soldier, Dawna Brown, who invited me to “Bring a Friend.” I wasn’t sure what that was and I told her I was not a very good friend right now. Well, I figured it can’t hurt since I’m not doing anything and I’ve shut everyone out of my life, so I showed up. I didn’t know it was bring a friend to workout. I’m glad I did, it was the best decision I made!
The summer of 2012 my son had gone off to college and my husband deployed to Afghanistan so I was alone once again. Good thing I had tried Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping because I decided to sign up for the Fall 2012 10-week session. This changed my life! I would come to class, workout and leave. Not much communication happened. I tried not to talk to anyone, but you guys knew what you were doing because every class had a coach and my coach was Crisilyn Lester, and that girl would not let up! Well, that girl has now become my best friend along with a list of friends that I made throughout my time at Farrell’s. Farrell’s brought me back to life, helped me push through whatever it was that I was going through and made me a better person. Physically I became stronger! Emotionally I found myself again.
During my time there at Farrell’s I went through two knee surgeries that set me back and put me right back into shutdown mode, because I went from doing something awesome and fun, to sitting on the couch and nursing a knee injury. I let it consume me and let myself relapse. But there again, that quirky little friend Crisilyn Lester brought me back to the gym and I picked up where I left off. I was doing great, not only was I feeling better about myself, but I took all that energy and started helping others. I became a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator and that taught me that there are others who are facing far worse than some and this took me into a different emotional state of mind, that if it wasn’t for Farrell’s, I don’t know how I would have made it through. This was my therapy!
Finally, at 42 years old I had a baby, and you know how that goes. You eat more than you should, you gain all that weight and you blame it on baby weight and tell yourself it’s okay because “I’m pregnant, I have an excuse or I just had a baby!” and that’s how you justify it. Well, third time’s a charm. After I had the baby, I came back to Farrell’s stronger than ever. After two months of getting back in shape physically and emotionally, I started coaching a 10-week session and that just sent me over the edge in a whole different level. The connection I made with so many people and how I was able to be a part of their transformation was the greatest feeling ever. My inspiration was lifted even higher through others. Not only that, then I had the pleasure of becoming an instructor. While I get praised for instructing my classes from the members and they tell me how I’ve been an inspiration to them, they just don’t know that it’s been because of them that I am who I am, because they inspire me to be better! Farrell’s brought me to a whole new level! Talk about a Level 10, I was there. For that I want to thank you! Thank you for believing in me and transforming me back to a better me! This place is truly a place for transformation, inside and out!
This was my 10 week session in the Fall of 2012. (The following images depict the results on one of our actual members. Individual results may vary.)
And then, here I am with The Vohsman’s. Truly an honor. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
