Farrell’s Gave Me the Tools to Change My Life!

IMG_0232My name is Lynne G., I am 51 years old, and a proud member of Oakdale Farrell’s Extreme Bodyshaping.

In November of 2013, a coworker of mine signed up for Farrell’s, but she wanted someone else to join with her. I had heard of Farrell’s but really had no clue as to what it was all about. I was able to get in on the Black Friday special, and thought why not give it a try for just 10 weeks. I thought I was in pretty good shape because I walked and biked a few days a week. I also did yoga a couple of days a week. The day before initial testing my coworker informed me she was not going to be able to do the program. I had already paid so I decided I would still give it a try. I really had no clue what kick boxing and resistant band training was all about!!! I thought FXB was going to be one these “body builder” type gyms where everyone was trying to bulk up. So I was a bit hesitant at first, I was slightly scared and nervous about the program.

lynne g 2In January of 2014 I walked through the doors of Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping, scared to death. I was going through another huge lifestyle change at the same time as I had just separated from my husband of 27 years. Needless to say I was starting out 2014 with a lot of “firsts”. Little did I know when I started how much FXB would help me through this time in my life I had lost a little weight before starting FXB. I remember one time reaching 154 lbs. at my heaviest. I always had carried around ‘baby weight’ even though my kids are 26 and 24 years old. I told myself I was never going to lose that, that it was just a part of childbirth, right? I am 5’8″ and I was always able to carry my weight well but I also was carrying a lot of body fat.

At initial orientation I weighed 141 lbs. and 30% body fat. I did 18 push-ups and 24 sit-ups each in a minute. After testing I met my coach Suzanne, and the other 10-week participants who were joining the 4:30 pm class. I believe my transformation actually started when my coach started to tell us as a group what the FXB program was all about. She explained with great enthusiasm that if we wanted the program to work we would have to be dedicated to the FXB three-part system, kickboxing, strength training, and nutrition. She made me feel so welcomed and relaxed. She reassured all of us that we were doing the right thing just by signing up. She was honest about what was expected of us each. She said,” It’s not going to be easy, but it’s going to be worth it.”

No other gym or yoga studio I had been to in the past had put so much emphasis on nutrition. That’s what makes FXB stand out. You have to be accountable for everything you eat. My coach made us turn in our food log each week. She saw that I was eating too much protein and not enough carbs, so she helped me figure out a better plan. I had never had to be accountable for what I was eating. I always thought I could out work what I was eating. That is wrong!

I jumped into the program right from the beginning. The first couple of weeks were hard, and I was sore. It was then I realized how out of shape I was! Each day I could tell I was getting stronger. I only missed the last three days of the 10 weeks due to the flu. I followed the nutrition program religiously. At the end of my 10 weeks I weighed 133 lbs. February of 2015 I now weigh 128 lbs., and I am down to 22% body fat. I am able to now do 40 push-ups and 50 sit-ups in a minute.

Farrell’s has given me the tools I need to make a total lifestyle change. All the instructors are trained to get the most out of me at each workout. Pushing me to get to Level 10. My coach still helps me with nutrition, form, technique, and motivation. Each instructor brings their own style to each workout so each workout is different. I never know what I am in for each day. The instructors at Oakdale FXB have pushed me farther than I have ever been pushed during a workout. I could never do a workout on my own like the FXB workouts. Being over 50 years old, strength training is so important for my bone density.

When I started I had a goal to lose weight. I was able to accomplish that, but what I did not expect was the loss of body fat. I now feel so much healthier. I have more energy, my skin looks and feels better. I now wear a size 4! Never in a million years did I ever think that would happen.

Farrell’s has completely changed the way I look at food. I now ask myself before I eat something; will this fuel my body? I used to eat out of boredom. I now eat healthy foods that I enjoy. I read labels and keep it simple. If there is an ingredient that my grandparents have never heard of, it probably is not a healthy choice. When I grocery shop I only shop the perimeter of the store.

One of the best things for me about the FXB program is earning my “Free Day” by working out and eating clean all six days. On that day I can eat whatever I want. I have not had a free day yet where I have not had chips and salsa! I have trained myself to say no I cannot have that cookie, brownie or candy today, but I can have it on my free day. I have brought treats home in baggies and put them in the freezer until my free day.

FXB is also about the accountability. I have the best workout partners, coaches, and instructors. If I don’t show up for a class they will ask why I missed! They have become my friends. I would not have gotten to where I am today without them.

My lifestyle since starting FXB has been such a change for the positive. I look forward each day to my workouts. It is actually the most relaxing part of my day. I am so much happier these days.

Friends and family are always asking how I did it. I tell them FXB is not a fad diet plan. It is a lifestyle change. You have to be “all in”. You have to do all three together. If you do so, you will see results. But you have to first make the commitment. Once you do, FXB is there to guide you.

I am most proud when someone compliments me on my transformation. It was not easy, but it was way worth it. The workouts are tough but everyone around you is working hard also. That is motivation. I never feel like I am trying to compete against anyone else, I am competing against who I was yesterday.

Even though my 10 weeks are done, the challenge is still there. Brian, the manager at Oakdale FXB continues to push me as a FIT member. He even had a pull up bar installed! I was scared to death to try it, but Brian challenged me one day. Now I have added pull ups each day before my workout.

I am so thankful for everyone at Oakdale FXB for helping with my transformation. It was by chance that I stumbled into Farrell’s. Little did I know how much the program was going to help me through my divorce by helping me cope with the daily stress relief. I am now helping coach new 10-week participants. The look in their eyes is the same one I had when I first started. I am happy to reassure them that they will get out of FXB what they put into it. If I can do it, anyone can!! Thank you Farrell’s for giving me the tools for my lifestyle change!
