No Turning Back!
Jennifer B. from our West Dodge location in Omaha, NE shares with us her story prior to taking our Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping 10-week challenge, why she decided to give it a try, and why after 10 weeks she’s not looking back!
Why I Joined Farrell’s:
My weight has been a struggle ever since early childhood. I have been on every fad diet out there and would lose a little just to gain even more right back. Over the past 10 years I have endured many ups and downs in my personal life . . . I have been consumed with school (currently taking classes for my Master’s in Clinical Counseling), work and caring for others including my children, foster children, and my husband and other family members. We finalized the adoption of our now 7-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter about two years ago and that has been a very emotional process over the past few years. I find when I am stressed I turn to food for comfort and tend to indulge and overeat. At times I feel as if food controls me, which is so crazy to say!
Many of my daily activities involve being around food and preparing meals and snacks for my five children (8, 7, 6, 5 and 1) and I find myself snacking often even when I am not hungry. I gave birth to my youngest daughter in March 2014 and was at my heaviest weight of 318 lbs. During the pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The doctor then told me that because of it I was at a much higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes as I age. Honestly, it took a good two weeks for that to sink in because I felt as if I was in shock. About that same time a few of my girlfriends threw me a “sprinkle shower” and as I was looking through the pictures I felt as if I hardly recognized myself due to how large I looked in the pictures. I knew at that time I needed to make a change.
I went to a diabetes nutrition class and started walking on the treadmill daily. Still I struggled with my diet and exercise. About six months after having my daughter I signed up for a color run with my friend and older kids. In my head I thought how bad could it be, jog a little, right?! After about five minutes in the HOT SUN jogging with my four kids shouting RUN MOM, RUN, I felt as if I was going to pass out and had to walk. My kids were very encouraging, however I don’t think they realized how much pain I was really in, not only physically, but also emotionally because I knew I couldn’t keep up with them. My husband was standing at the end of the finish line with our baby cheering us on as we crossed.
After that day I knew I needed a major change. That was when I really started looking into Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping and asking questions. I had two friends on Facebook that had recently completed Farrell’s and raved about how far they had come. I signed up for the 10-week challenge. Putting myself first and exercising at a much higher intensity level than I have been would hopefully reduce stress and allow me to be a better mother, wife, and student, and soon to be therapist! Overall I was hoping to gain energy, strength and confidence!
Why I’m Continuing with Farrell’s:
Honestly, when I first started Farrell’s 10-week program I had a few family members and friends say that I was crazy. Crazy to add a workout/nutrition program to my life, which included working on-call at an inpatient child/psych unit, going to school for my Master’s in Clinical Counseling, raising five children, tending to two saint Bernard’s, a husband and a home to take care of, and more! I told them from week one and still to this day on week ten, that I’d be crazy not to! That this is a lifestyle change, not only for me, but also for my children and husband. That I am so busy doing everything for others that I need to do something for me to de-stress! Something MAJOR had to change because I knew I could not continue on as I was!
Farrell’s nutrition plan and classes by Max Muscle have helped me immensely by teaching me to “eat clean”. I have learned how to meal prep, meal plan and am providing not only myself, but also my family with healthy snacks and meals. We have never eaten this many lean meats, veggies and fruits! Food no longer controls me! I have found different outlets for my stress eating such as drinking ice-cold water, singing music really loud with my kids (they think it’s funny and sing along), and going for a walk/jog. I have more energy, strength and confidence than I have had in a long time! This 10-week program has taught me a lot about personal strength and perseverance! I never knew what “muscle failure” felt like until I joined Farrell’s. I remind myself the aches and pains that I have endured along the way mean changes for the better are occurring. I have never pushed myself at the gym like I have in class at Farrell’s. The energy of the instructors and classmates is contagious! It feels amazing to know that I have taken charge of my health, am making healthy food choices and am living an active lifestyle. I am now able to keep up and run with my children! I am excited to continue on in the FIT program and look forward to a healthier future!
Jennifer was a 10-week member for our recent spring session and is now a FIT member at our West Dodge location in Omaha, NE!
