I Left Farrell’s Orientation with Hope and Faith
“I release all anger and guilt into the wind and I cleanse myself of any
and all negative emotions . . .”
My Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping journey has been hard for me to put into words and to actually get it written down. My story is slightly different. I am thirty years old, divorced, no children and have traveled the country most of my life. This summer for the first time in my life I feel beautiful standing alone on my own two feet! Farrell’s has given me not only physical strength but mental strength as well.
In the fall of 2014, a life experience led me to find a change, for myself and the relationships that I put myself into.
I remember when I called Farrell’s Oakdale; my hands were trembling trying to hold my phone. In my mind I was thinking that there was no way I could do this. While talking to Anne, I told her my story and she immediately took the mother role and put my mind at ease. She suggested I come in and talk with Brian, the manager, and he could give me a tour and explain how things operated. Again, I remember thinking that there was no way I could do this, I was thinking that my finances were tight, and my schedule was already full of time constraints . . . how could I make it work?
I do not remember the drive to the Farrell’s, but I do remember the gut-wrenching feeling I had in my stomach getting out of my vehicle, walking into that building, feeling out of place, and thinking how I just didn’t belong there. Talking to Brian wasn’t nearly as difficult as I had played it out in my head. He reassured, with no pressure and no judgment. He told me to show up and give it my all! I signed up for the 11:45 a.m. class, which began on September 27, 2014.
The Saturday that I started my 10 weeks changed everything for me.
The positivity and encouragement I encountered that morning cannot even be described. I have never felt so good or energized at a gym, and there was no judgment. I left that day from Farrell’s with hope and faith, something I had lost a few months back. I thought to myself, “I could maybe do this.”
I will never forget the first day and hitting that bag. I was able to take all of my frustrations out on the bag. The first three weeks of class I was sore, but I had such amazing encouragement from some of the greatest coaches and instructors. When I felt I couldn’t push myself any further and I wanted to give up, I had Brandon telling me, “YOU CAN DO THIS!” When I was hitting my breaking point and I just wanted to fall to the floor and cry, I could hear Shannon saying, “I have never seen someone push themselves as hard as you have!”
I completed my 10 weeks December 6, 2014. I completed something that I thought to myself was not possible. I changed my mind-set from “I can’t” to “I can and I will!” Along with the positive mental change and spiritual gain, I also had sufficient physical changes and I decided to sign-up for the one-year challenge. I realized in those 10 weeks I needed a goal and I needed to set something for myself. Winning $10K would be awesome, who wouldn’t want that?? But for me, this one-year challenge is more than the money. For those of you that need numbers, in 40 weeks I have dropped 30 lbs. and 25 inches total off my body and have almost lost 10% of my body fat, but I have gained so much more. I have gained a family, I have friends that will have my back no matter what, and I have a whole community there for me at the drop of a hat. No amount of weight loss and no amount of money could ever replace the feelings and strength I have gained since joining Farrell’s.
