Farrell’s Helped Me Realize I Can Do Anything!
My life was filled with lots of stress. I had just ended my career in banking and started my career in real estate. My younger brother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer on the day I turned 51 years old. He is eight years younger and has always been very active. My dad also passed away from cancer a few years back. I was dealing with health issues of my own. I had high cholesterol and high blood pressure, so my thinking was: if one of those two things don’t kill me, cancer or stress just might. I knew I needed to change my way of thinking and eating since I have been overweight most of my adult life and have tried every diet out there. It was time to quit looking for a fast fix and take responsibility for getting healthy and fit the right way. I felt everything else would fall into place. I still procrastinated for almost a whole year not knowing what direction to take in fitness. I checked out different programs from time to time, but didn’t find anything I thought would keep me interested or that I had the ambition to join.
Getting ready to turn 52 years old, I really felt the need to still pull it together. I decided to check out Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping and knew the moment I walked in the door this was where I needed to be! I was greeted with smiles and it seemed like Angie and Maggie were glad to see me. I decided then to check out a class to see how I liked kickboxing. I was unable to get through the warm-up without feeling like I would pass out. I had to sit down so I didn’t fall down! Not a great way to start… but I was very determined to get signed-up and get started!
My Farrell’s journey began in January 2015. I was not looking forward to running the mile and the rest of the testing. But If I remember correctly, 86 new FXB members started the same day and probably felt the same way. I made it through and could not wait for Monday to get started. I was determined not to quit this time. I knew if I followed the Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping program I would start feeling better, healthier and the weight would come off. That is exactly what happened! As the weeks went by, my clothing was fitting very differently, I was eating healthier and getting more confident in myself. The better I felt, the harder I worked to get to my Level 10 every day. Hard work does pay off… I ended up winning the 10-Week Challenge. But winning the challenge is not why I started this journey, winning was just a bonus! Signing up for FIT wasn’t even an option!
One of my favorite things about Farrell’s is the family you gain. I have made such great friends! Friends that really encourage me and want nothing more than my success. Just when you think you have nothing left to give during class, team members will cheer you on to your Level 10. I owe a lot to Ryan and Angie for pushing me beyond my limits and believing I could do more than I thought I could. Randy, my husband, has also been with me through this journey and one of my biggest cheerleaders. I thank him for being there always and loving me for who I am.
I started setting different goals to keep myself accountable. FIT has a lot to do with other fitness goals I have decided to try. One of my favorites was when I was asked to join the Relay Iowa Team. I joined with some hesitation and doubts, but started training and was determined not to let my fellow teammates down. I LOVED every minute of the relay. It was so much fun for me! If someone would have told me I would be running across Iowa and liking it a year ago, I would not have believed them. After the relay I decided I can do anything I put my mind to. FIT classes and running have become a huge part of my life. I am getting ready for a half marathon and know that I can and will rock it because of the foundation I have built with Farrell’s Ames. I cannot wait to see what else this journey has in store!
