I joined FXB in Denver, CO in January, 2015 because I needed (and still need) a structured and positive environment to help get my health & fitness back on track. During college, I gained about 50 pounds and gained another 10 pounds or so after moving to Denver and starting a new job. My weight put me in the “Obese” BMI category and I realized I had to make a change. My family has a history of heart disease and diabetes, and I didn’t want to increase my risk by living an unhealthy lifestyle. I have played sports & participated in marching band almost my entire life – I knew what my body was capable of physically and it was depressing that now I became winded walking up the stairs. I started walking on the treadmill and trying at-home workout videos and got burnt out pretty quickly. I wasn’t seeing any changes, but more importantly, I wasn’t having any fun. I needed to find my niche – and I found that at FXB Denver.

Looking back on it, I would say my 10-Week Challenge was life changing. I pulled into the parking lot that morning and wasn’t sure if I actually wanted to go in. I was nervous about taking a picture, I was nervous that people would judge my weight and I was nervous that I had to run a mile. But like I told myself when I signed up, excuses weren’t going to get me anywhere, so I walked through the doors. My picture was taken, I was measured, weighed, ran and did some push-ups and sit ups, but what stood out to me the most from that day was the positivity. I was excited to come back on Monday for my first class, and I knew that I had made the right choice by signing up.

The first couple weeks I was sore and tired but then something changed. I felt myself getting stronger and even after a long day of work and kickboxing, I woke the next day feeling refreshed, instead of groggy and aching for a donut to start my sugar rush. I started looking forward to the end of the day when I could get my work outs in. Ten weeks flew by and before I knew it, I had dropped a total of 17 inches, 17 pounds, 4% body fat, increased my pushups by 42, increased my sit-ups by 17 and reduced my mile time by 3 minutes and 50 seconds. I was ecstatic! But what I gained during my 10-Week Challenge was more important than what I lost: a support group and the ability to be part of the Farrell’s community, friends that keep me laughing and motivated both on and off the mat, the knowledge of how to treat my body correctly and how to fuel it properly.

Today I’m happier, healthier and more confident. We all wish there was some secret pill or magic shake that you could drink to be healthy, but after my Farrell’s experience I’m glad there isn’t – going through my 10-Week challenge made me truly appreciate the joys of hard work instead of taking the easy way out. It changed how I approach difficulties in my everyday life and it changed my relationship with family & friends.

As I continue to coach and begin instructing, I’m excited to share my struggles and knowledge with people on their own journeys in hopes that they can learn from me, and I can help them achieve their goals. If you are thinking about joining Farrell’s, I would say “Don’t wait another day!”  When I decided I wanted to make a change in my lifestyle and I was trying to find a program that would work for me, I started giving myself excuses: “Farrell’s is too far away”, “I won’t want to go after work”, “my knees hurt so I can’t workout” (since starting FXB, my knee pain has decreased drastically), “I don’t know anyone”, “I’m so out of shape, I won’t be able to do this”…I could go on and on. Giving myself excuses was no way to start my journey to health. I realized that if I wanted to make a change, I needed to stop talking myself down and just do it. The next day I called Dan, signed up for the next 10-Week Challenge, and haven’t looked back since.

Since joining in January of this year, I have lost 44 pounds and over 25 inches (including 10 inches off my waist and 5 inches off my hips) and have shed 10% body fat.  I’m loving my new body and can’t wait to achieve more.
