Farrell’s Changed Me in the Best Way Possible!

Casual BeforeI joined Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping for the first time in 2010. I convinced a friend to do it with me and we kind of kept to ourselves. I lost about 8 lbs., 4% body fat, and around 10 inches. I decided not to become a FIT member and was convinced I would keep it up on my own. Fast forward to April 2015; I was the heaviest I had ever been, always tired, criticizing my body every time I got dressed, and pointing out my flaws to my husband. He finally looked at me and said, “To me, you’re perfect, but you are the only person that can do something about the way YOU feel about yourself.” It clicked. Right then and there; this is about ME, my choices, my health, my self-esteem! That day, I passed the Edgewood Farrell’s location on my way home and saw their sign “enrolling now.” That’s it, I thought; let’s do this!

I got home and signed up online and my 10-week journey started three days later. I was nervous, but determined. This was about ME and I was going to make the most of it. I immediately engaged with those around me. I had a wonderful coach (Jamie, you rock!) who I riddled with questions constantly, introduced myself to new people every day, and asked for tips on my form and nutrition choices (thank you Chris). I was hooked!

After my 10 weeks, I lost a few pounds, several inches, and about 1.5% of my body fat. I realized that my body wasn’t changing at the same rate it was five years prior, which made me more focused and committed. The old adage “it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” instantly came to mind and became my motto. I did not make the same mistake twice; this time I signed up as a FIT member and even challenged myself into becoming a strength training instructor. I thought I was in pretty good shape. Then I started instructing and met a whole new challenge; talking, counting and working out at the same time. ARGH! I love being able to share my excitement and passion with others. One of my greatest accomplishments is having a 10-weeker tell me I helped them stay focused and encouraged them to keep going. That is exactly what I want to do now; I want to push myself and continue to get stronger, but also encourage others to chase their best self!

A few fun wins for me:

  1. As a joke, I challenged a male friend to an arm wrestling match. He refused because he said my arms were looking too strong these days.
  2. I work at Rockwell, and the walks from the car to my desk are pretty long, so every morning I walk as fast as I can to see how high my heart rate gets.
  3. In my first five weeks, I stopped drinking coffee (on accident). My body was craving water and I had more natural energy than I have had in years, so I didn’t crave my daily caffeine boost.
  4. I was helping put away tables after an event and a gentleman (being very nice) offered to take the table from me and I politely responded, “Oh, I got it,” and proceeded to carry it 50 feet by myself.
  5. After week 7 of my 10 weeks, I was able to touch my toes for the first time during the sit and reach stretch after our warmup. I was so excited!

All in all, I have gone down two dress sizes, lost 10 lbs, 3.5% body fat, and am no longer complaining about how my clothes fit! I realized that I don’t even think about the way I look anymore because I feel so darn fantastic! This program changed me in the best way possible! I am stronger, more confident, mentally tough, and in the best shape I’ve ever been! I can’t thank the Farrell’s family enough for what they’ve helped me accomplish and I look forward to continuing my journey living life at level 10!
