I’ve Found My Place at Farrell’s!

They call it “Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping”, and it has a motto: “Life at Level 10”. What they don’t tell you is that it’s not just your body that will be extremely shaped, and that if you buy into the program and push yourself to level 10 workouts, your life will be lived at a constant level 10. My name is Stacia Weaver and this is my transformation story.

January 2015 was the start of my 10-week session. I actually won my session in a company Christmas charity drawing. I found out that this was one of the items available so I bought a bunch of tickets and put them all in the canister. I won! Little did I know how much this would change my life.

Where I was: October 2013, I was at my least fit and I tipped the scale at nearly 280 lbs., maybe higher. I was gooey, out of shape, depressed. I was a terrible teacher and a miserable human being, but thankfully I recognized this (basically because other people were kindly hinting at me being miserable) and I decided to make a change. I got involved in triathlon and a few other things. Fad diets, an inconsistent exercise routine, and wishing just didn’t get it done. But I wanted to do more.

In the summer of 2014 I participated in my first triathlon. I had always been a decent swimmer and I liked biking but hated running. I finished one sprint tri and one Olympic distance triathlon. I was fitter than I had been in a really long time but still finished nearly dead-last in each of my events. I knew if I was more fit I would be better at triathlon. Then fall and winter happened and with that I packed on the pounds, lost what fitness levels I had and started back down the road of depression. I even thought about trying one of those quick fix and get rich at the same time shake “programs”, but knew that wasn’t the way to go.

Then came Farrell’s: January 2015 I showed up and got my before pictures taken. I mean seriously…I had to strip down in front of the head coach that had been doing this for a while and had the body and the mindset to prove it . . . and there was ABSOLUTELY NO judgement. Then I showed up for testing, didn’t know a sole. There was the dreaded scale, that freaking measuring tape and the awesome coaches . . . and ABSOLUTELY NO JUDGEMENT. I did my testing and survived. And then Monday came. I was pretty sure I was going to die during the warm up, but I kept going. Then I got to hit the bag; man, that felt awesome. And then I kicked the bag . . . and the sound. Oh man, the sound and the feeling. Yep I was hooked on the very first day. And yes, that first day kicked my rear-end, as has every day since, because that is what happens when you push yourself to level 10 at every workout. But I keep coming back.

My transformation: At the end of my ten weeks, physically I had a pretty decent change. My clothes didn’t fit and I had to buy pants two sizes smaller. My weight had dropped but my body fat really dropped significantly. I was starting to see a little definition in my arms and legs. But mentally, emotionally, this is where I really knew I had the profound transformation. I was happier, I looked better, I felt better, and I was just a better human being. I was a better teacher and a nicer person. I made some life-long friends who didn’t mind sweaty hugs and high 5’s and I was asked to coach during the summer session of 2015. Since then I have completed a few more Olympic-distance triathlons and even a half iron-man triathlon last August.

Why I come back: My transformation is not complete. Each day still kicks my rear-end, but honestly, that is what I go in for. I would be disappointed if it didn’t. Each day I get better and stronger; physically, mentally, emotionally I get better and stronger. But the biggest reason . . . I’ve found my place. The people at this gym make this place and they, and you, are amazing people.
