When I started to write my transformation story, I had to sit on it for a couple days. Finally, I realized why. This is not “my” transformation story, it is “our” transformation story, as my husband, Justin, has been on this journey with me. If it weren’t for the two of us being a team, I’m not sure I’d be writing about my success.

Justin and I tried other gyms and diet programs in the past, but consistently found reasons to not go.  Things would go well for a while, the clothes would start to fit better, but then we would go back to our old habits. Skip the gym in the morning, eat unhealthy meals out all the time, and larger clothes started to happen.  For many years I had refused to step on the scale because I didn’t want to know the number. I figured if my clothes fit and I wasn’t buying bigger sizes at too fast of a rate, I was ok. However, inside I wasn’t happy with myself and I knew it was effecting every part of my life, both mentally and physically.

We signed up for Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping in January 2015. We knew that several of our former gym-mates had joined Farrell’s after another gym in town eliminated their 4 AM class.  From what social media told me, they seemed pretty happy about it. We had done kickboxing at another gym and really enjoyed it, and 3 times a week sounded fun. My cousin had also recently completed the program, and I saw his successes and thought, “If he can do that, I can do that.”

I was super nervous about our first day at FXB. Getting up at 3:40 each morning, working out around people I didn’t know, and, most of all, seeing the number on the scale made me sick to my stomach. I wasn’t able to attend orientation, but Justin assured me, “I think we’re really going to like it there. The people are super nice.”

Anne, our coach, was awesome (and still is). I’ll never forget the Friday of week one sharing a bag with her. We were doing partner sit-ups and she said, “Jen, I think you could win this. You’ve got the drive and initiative. You could totally do it. You’re like that Katy Perry song, you can ROAR!” I still listen to that song whenever I need a reminder of what I can do.  Having the push from her during workouts, helping with food, being someone I could text when I really wanted something not on the food plan (only for her to tell me there was probably a hair in it), and building a strong friendship along the way is one reason FXB works!

Having my husband 100% committed to our success in the program has been huge. Not only does he come to work out with me every morning, he also does the majority of the cooking and grocery shopping.  We figure out meals together using the Farrell’s cookbook, friends’ ideas, and Pinterest. We eat the same meals each day, so there is no food envy between each other. As a traveling teacher I was concerned about my ability to get in 6 meals throughout the day, but with some planning (protein bar in the car), I am able to make it happen.

At the end of the 10-weeks I lost 17 pounds and 18 inches. I didn’t win the $1000 prize, but I knew I was winning for myself with the changes I felt, both mentally and physically.  We signed up as FIT members and continued to follow the meal plan & lose inches. We also participated in FIT challenges, as well as challenges created by other FIT members for smaller groups to continue the drive and determination we have to be successful.  We are also competitive with each other in the gym, pushing each other to work to our LEVEL 10 every day. Our fellow gym-mates at 4:15 AM have become our friends, “bag besties”, and people who hold us accountable for coming to the gym and getting it done. It is awesome to share a success with them such as a new pair of jeans, wearing a swimsuit in public for the first time in years, or hitting another major number on the scale. I have also served as a coach for 2 sessions, and love sharing my passion, desire, and knowledge with the newest 10-weekers on ways they, too, can be successful on their journey.

A year and half later I am down over 60 pounds and 23% body fat. My husband is down 20 pounds and 11% body fat. Our lifestyles have changed completely. We continue to be actively engaged in our meal planning and daily exercise routines.  We can tell a difference in our health in all our daily activities.  As for my personal changes, I am now a much stronger, confident, happier, healthier person, wife, friend, and teacher.  Farrell’s has been an integral part of this process and I know I wouldn’t be here without it.
