New Faces at Farrell’s EP True in West Des Moines, IA
Our EP True West Des Moines, IA location is now under new ownership. Josh and Kathleen Riessen, who also own two other locations, are like all of our Farrell’s owners who are driven by the success and accomplishments of their members.
Here’s a little introduction from Kathleen:
Over the last 15 years Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping has transformed over 100,000 lives. That’s a business with a pretty profound purpose. Running a small business is a lot of work, but when we get to do our part to impact the lives of everyone who walks through our doors, it makes it all worth it.
We bought our first two Farrell’s locations (Beaverdale and Waukee) in August 2014. Two years later, we had the great opportunity to add EP True.
Along with a full-time staff of five, Josh oversees the daily operation of our three locations. At the core of our business is the martial arts program, which served as the launching pad for the FXB program 15 years ago. We are proud to run the premier martial arts school in Des Moines – the only full-time Black Belt Taekwondo school in the area. We have programs for everyone starting at age four.
Josh hasn’t always been a fitness fanatic. It started a little over six years ago when his weight and body fat were at an all-time high. He started running, then lifting and gradually got into great shape. He had a health scare in 2011 when he contracted histoplasmosis and nearly died. With a resting heart rate of over 120 for two weeks straight, the only reason he survived was because he was fit. At that point, he made a commitment to always stay healthy. Josh completed the 10-week challenge and knew that owning a Farrell’s location would be an awesome opportunity to share his love of fitness with others. You’ll find Josh instructing kickboxing and strength training at all locations at all hours of the day. Prior to managing these locations full-time, Josh was in sales, marketing and leadership roles for Hy-Vee, Strategic America and Meredith Corporation.
Kathleen owns a marketing and strategic consulting business, Measured Intentions. She started it from an idea and has grown it over the last eight years with her business partner, great clients and a great team. Kathleen completed her 10-week challenge in the spring of 2014 with the help and support of a lot of family and friends to help manage her schedule so she could get to the gym. Kathleen’s instructing schedule is limited, but you will find her teaching kickboxing classes from time-to-time at our three locations.
We have three awesome little boys – Caden (8), Noah (5) and Andrew (4). Caden is the intellectual and stereotypical first-born. Noah is the good-looking guy that is everyone’s friend. Andrew is a loving four-year-old that has no fear. You may see them in the gym from time-to-time.
We have big plans for EP True – including a new instructor training program, new equipment and a complete remodel sometime in early 2017. We’re excited to get started and to continue working with members on their fitness journey.
