Two years ago I was at the heaviest and unhealthiest place that I have been in my entire life. I wasn’t happy and I didn’t know why. I have a great husband who loves me no matter what my size, I have three beautiful children, but I wasn’t happy.
It wasn’t until I was scrolling through pictures on my phone one night after my daughter was playing with it that I saw she had taken this picture of me. It was the first time that I really saw the unhappiness on my face even though I felt I had everything I wanted or needed. I knew what was making me so unhappy; I didn’t love myself anymore.
It was at this point that I reached out to a friend who introduced me to clean eating and I worked out at home with exercise videos. I was able to drop 37 pounds on my own, but as it happens to many people, I started cheating more and more and those old feelings of not loving myself were starting to resurface and I started putting the weight back on. I knew I needed something more than trying to get myself to eat right and get up off my butt. I needed to be motivated; I needed accountability; I needed someone to not let me give up; I needed Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping.
My sister introduced me to Farrell’s. Her and her husband went through the 10-week challenge and had noticeable success and so I asked my husband to call to find out information for me because my self-confidence was so low at that time that even reaching out by phone was difficult and intimidating to me. That night, I was signed up and completely terrified.
I went into the first 10 weeks afraid that I was going to quit. I walked in and was intimidated by the fact that I felt like I was the heaviest, unhealthiest person there and then a stranger, (another 10-week participant) smiled at me as I timidly sat near her. She was the first one to encourage me to keep going and telling me that I could do this and for that I will be forever grateful.
As the 10 weeks went on, I not only had her support, but I had all my classmates support, too. Our coach, Pete, was always there to not only motivate us, but his passion for this program was so contagious that you wanted to continue to show up every morning to get another kickboxing or strength training butt whooping.
There were numerous times where I felt like giving up when I’d hear someone yell out my name to keep going and that would help me find the strength to do so. It was at the start of week 10 that I got a grade 2 torn muscle in my calf and I was fearful that I’d have to take a break or quit, but Pete looked me in the eyes and said “this is only a speed bump. This injury might slow you down, but it won’t stop you from getting to where you want to go.” And it didn’t! And now that I’m completely healed, I’m giving it my all once again. These people have become more to me then just workout partners. They are more to me than just acquaintances or friends. They are my people, my Farrell’s family.
Besides gaining a support system and friends, I have also gained confidence and courage. Enough so that I closed my daycare business and went back into a field of work that has intimidated me for years, teaching.
With Farrell’s Bettendorf, I found something that I feel gives me the butt kicking that I need and has helped me lose an additional 22 pounds*, but most importantly, has made me feel strong and confident. I’m not done yet, I’m definitely a work in progress, but I’m active and I’m happy!
